    PPA is a free service will provide you with a link to the web site of an organization that will provide each medication at a low cost. You simply enter the medication on this website to obtain the link to the organization. If you are using a brand name and don’t get a hit, Google the brand name to obtain the generic name and try again. Most, if not all the organizations will provide the prescription even if you have some type of prescription coverage and even if the website says you cannot have coverage. Talk to a representative if the website says you cannot have prescription coverage.     
      
    Rx Assist
    Comprehensive database of patient assistance programs run by pharmaceutical companies to provide free medications to people who cannot afford to buy their medicine. 
      RxHope 
    Qualifying individuals check to see if their drug is listed. If it is, they fill out an application, which is available on their website, that will provide the drug for free or for a “small, affordable co-pay.” This site links you to the pharmaceutical company’s application, which tells you their income limitation for eligibility.       World Medical Relief, Inc in Southfield has an Affordable Prescription Program ($8.30 per RX) for individuals meeting the following requirements:
    • 18 years of age or older
    • Earn $36,200 or less per year if you are single; $41,400 for a couple. 
    • Documentation of income is required.
    • Do not have prescription drug coverage, even though you may have health insurance.
    • Are not currently enrolled in Medicaid or if you have Medicaid, and there is a medicine that is not covered, perhaps they can help with it
    You may still qualify if you have a discount prescription card or are a senior on Medicare Part D.  

    In most cases, the medications can be mailed directly to your home.

    Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP)

    MMAP, Inc. is a free health-benefit counseling service.  The goal is to help navigate Medicare health benefits.  MMAP sites are housed in regional Area Agencies on Aging, County Departments on Aging, Senior Services Agencies, Commisions on Aging and similar organizations located throughout Michigan.     MEDICAID AND HEALTHY MICHIGAN SERVICESBoth Medicaid and Healthy Michigan Plan provide vision care services - eye exams and eyeglasses. So if a person has either of those health plans, they can contact their provider for assistance.

    EYE EXAMINATIONS - MEDICAL ONLY

    Lions Club
    Lions Clubs around the world are involved in many sight-related areas in order to help prevent blindness. May pay for eyeglasses for low income people. In Royal Oak call 248-549-2504. For other Lions Clubs in southeast Michigan call 248-975-6072.

    EyeCare America EyeCare America is a public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Our mission is to preserve sight by raising awareness about eye disease and providing access to medical eye care.

    By age 65, one in three Americans has some form of vision-limiting eye disease. To help address this growing need, EyeCare America provides eye care to US citizens and legal residents through volunteer ophthalmologists (Eye M.D.s) at no cost to those who qualify.
    This program DOES NOT provide eyeglasses or eyeglass prescriptions. Their purpose is to provide medical eye examinations and care for eye disease. If you are in need of such care, please use their online referral center.

    VISION USA VISION USA was established in 1991 to provide basic eye examinations to Americans in need, and is currently available in 39 states and the District of Columbia. AOA member optometrists donate their services at no cost. EYEGLASS EXAMS ONLY - NO CONTACT LENS EXAMS. Eyewear may be provided at no cost or for a small fee/donation in some states. The total cost is estimated to be $30 for single lens exam + eyeglasses and $35 for bifocals.

    You must work with a charitable organization, social worker, case worker, community health agency to submit an application. Applicants are to provide proof of household income for verification of income level eligibility. ONLY REFERRAL AGENCIES CAN SUBMIT THE APPLICATION. The most commonly used referral agencies consist of: Community Health Agencies, Community Action Groups, Goodwill, Salvation Army, United Way, Lions Cub, charitable or religious organizations. Check here for a list of referral agencies by state and city.

    Michigan participates in this program. To qualify, applicants must meet all five of these requirements:
    1. Have no private or government insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid.

    4. Have not had an eye exam within the past 24 months.
    5. Have not received a doctor referral through the VISION USA program in the last two years.

    New Eyes for the Needy
     New Eyes for the Needy purchases basic prescription eyeglasses for people in financial need in the U.S. All applicants must be submitted by a social service agency.

    The application must be fully completed by both the social service agency and the applicant.
    Every application must include a copy of a recent eyeglass prescription.
    The application and copy of prescription must be mailed to New Eyes. We do not accept applications through fax or email.
    If the application is approved, a voucher is sent to the social service agency to give to applicant.
    Applicants can take their voucher to a local optical dispenser. The voucher is for full payment for a basic pair of glasses. New Eyes will directly reimburse the optical dispenser. Voucher recipients do NOT pay any additional money. Do I qualify? How to apply


    SIGHT FOR STUDENTS
     Sight for Students is a program of VSP Vision Care that provides free vision exams and glasses to low-income, uninsured children. If you qualify you must then contact a local partner in order to receive help. Do I qualify? Find a partner to help you.

    The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation Re-Entry/Tattoo Removal Program
    This organization offers in conjunction with their Re-Entry services a free tattoo removal service for folks who are seeking to have their former prison/and or gang affiliated tattoos removed.  This service is offered through the volunteer work of resident doctors affiliated with Botsford Hospital, Skin & Vein Center, & the office of Dr. A. Lacasse., D.O., who come to their location twice a month to provide tattoo removal. 

    In addition, we do offer this service to folks who’s tattoos are not gang or prison affiliated for a nominal fee of $25.00 for each tattoo, each session (ex: 1 tattoo $25.00 each visit 2 tattoo’s you pay $50.00 each visit and so on).
